Training Overview

In the SPEAK UP Champion™ Implicit and Explicit Racial Bias Education, you learned foundational concepts such as the types of racism; historical events and their implications for health equity; social determinants of health, and quality improvement science basics. The SPEAK UP Ambassador Course is the next step on the Institute for Perinatal Quality Improvement’s SPEAK UP Action Pathway, challenging participants to enhance their SPEAK UP Action Plans by engaging in deeper discussions and learning regarding how to mitigate the lingering effects of racism to improve Black maternal outcomes.

​During this day-long interactive session, participants will expand their expertise in how to become allies and leaders working to dismantle racism with the overarching goal of providing equitable care and eliminating health disparities using quality improvement methods and tools. Continuing Education is available.

Get to know the Speakers

Renee Byfield, MS, RN, FNP, C-EFM

Renée Byfield works as Program Director of the SPEAK UP Implicit and Explicit Racial Bias Education for the Institute for Perinatal Quality Improvement (PQI). She advances PQI's mission by expanding the use of quality improvement science to eliminate preventable perinatal morbidity and mortality and end perinatal disparities.

Debra Bingham, DrPH, RN, FAAN

Debra Bingham is the Chief Executive Officer for PQI and developed, co-authored, and launched the SPEAK UP Against Racism Action Pathway. She works to expand the utilization of implementation and improvement science theories, frameworks, methods and tools to address perinatal morbidity and mortality.
