Role Description: Patient Family Advisory Committee Member
The Perinatal-Neonatal Quality Improvement Network (PNQIN) is an organization of doctors, nurses,
doulas, public health workers, and Quality Improvement experts that work to improve the health
outcomes and achieve health equity for all Massachusetts families. An important part of this work is
lifting up the voices of patients, families, and community members in these efforts. Therefore, PNQIN is
looking to hire 5 people with lived experience to serve on our new Patient & Family Advisory Committee
(PFAC), which will be overseen by PNQIN’s Patient & Family Engagement Coordinator.
This role is hourly (up to 60 hours per year) and is almost entirely virtual except for occasional in-person
events such as PNQIN summits (twice a year). The main responsibility of the Patient & Family Advisory
Committee is to advise PNQIN on what topics and projects should be addressed to improve the health of
pregnant and postpartum people and their families. There are also opportunities to serve as members of
PNQIN project teams and work directly with hospitals on their quality improvement projects.
Responsibilities:
● Initial meeting with PNQIN’s Patient & Family Engagement Coordinator (PFE Coordinator) to
learn more about PNQIN structure and activities, the PFAC program, and expectations for PFAC
members.
● Schedule a monthly check-in with PFE Coordinator (and other PNQIN team members) to
establish and provide ongoing mentorship and support.
● Participate in Lived Experience Integration Training through Momma’s Voices (one-time,
self-paced, free).
● Help contribute to a PFAC charter and attend monthly PFAC meetings with the PFE Coordinator
and other PFAC members.
● Partner with community organizations to engage community members and spread awareness of
PNQIN’s and hospitals’ programs and resources.
● Opportunity to co-chair the PNQIN Advisory Board’s Patient & Family Engagement
subcommittee.
Qualifications:
● Personal experience or experience directly supporting a family member who has given birth, and
willingness to share lived experience
● Experience engaging in community events, community organizations, etc.
● Experience or knowledge of family and community engagement frameworks and practices
● Ability to work with people of diverse races, ethnicities, languages, abilities, etc.
● Experience engaging in difficult conversations
● Passionate about health equity and addressing disparities in care
Work hours/Compensation:
● $30/hour up to 60 hours per year (Max: $1,800/year)
