Apply to Become SPEAK UP Faculty!

The Institute for Perinatal Quality Improvement (PQI) began the SPEAK UP Against Racism Program in 2018. This program creates a safe space for perinatal health care professionals who care for people who are or may become pregnant to have conversations about recognizing their implicit and explicit racial biases. “Conversation is where change begins.” PQI is looking to expand the SPEAK UP Program by having SPEAK UP Faculty. The SPEAK UP Program is organized around the SPEAK UP acronym and mnemonic.

During the SPEAK UP Champion course participants learn strategies to help individuals and teams dismantle racism, provide quality equitable care, and eliminate health disparities using quality improvement methodologies. Once participants complete the SPEAK UP Champion course, they pledge to speak up against racism. The next step is to attend a SPEAK UP Ambassador virtual, live course to learn additional strategies. PQI developed a train-the-trainer approach to prepare a cohort of SPEAK UP Faculty to spread the program. This is an opportunity for SPEAK UP Faculty to host their own SPEAK UP course.

Invitation Only, applications are now open and can be submitted at any time. People who plan to attend the Ambassador course in May are eligible to apply prior to completing this course. The application is robust and takes a little while to complete so PQI recommends people start working well before the deadline of 5/1/24.
