*This policy is in the process of being updated, and therefore, some information on current practice and guidelines are not included. The pictures and the procedure for evaluating the nares and septum for breakdown and preventative care are the unchanged. At BWH the RT’s are primarily in charge of this task and an assessment of the nares is done every 4-6 hours during the patients care time. Usually, a patient will not use the same interface for longer than 8 hours at a time.
